Alen Simonyan Confident in Ruling Party’s Victory in 2026 Elections

On March 28, Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan expressed confidence in the ruling party’s success in the 2026 elections.
Simonyan stated that he was certain of victory and that the party would secure more votes than in the 2021 elections. He attributed this belief to his communication with citizens. He also expressed confidence that Sarik Minasyan, the party’s candidate in the upcoming Gyumri elections, would win, potentially receiving more than 50% of the votes.
Regarding the participation of Prime Minister Pashinyan in the ruling party’s rally, Simonyan said he was unsure but noted that he was impressed by the previous day's debates. He described them as largely focused on Minasyan, noting that as the current acting mayor of Gyumri, he had naturally been the center of attention. Simonyan emphasized that Minasyan performed well in the debates.
Simonyan also addressed the issue of election campaigning, stating that when candidates distribute money before elections and law enforcement intervenes, it is a normal part of the process. He questioned whether candidates should be allowed to act with impunity, threatening and intimidating voters. Simonyan concluded that it was futile to seek new patterns in law enforcement behavior, as everyone knows the candidates' tactics, including those who have been involved in handing out money, using foul language, or making false promises.
