On July 6, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan discussed with the acting US Deputy Secretary of State Dereck Hogan the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The administrative head of the Armenian Security Council is in Washington on a working visit.

At the meeting between Grigoryan and Hogan, the need to ensure the rights and security of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh was noted. The focus was also on the agenda of Armenian-American relations, regional security, and negotiations on the conclusion of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, two rounds of which were held in May and June of this year.

Notably, the Armenian leadership has previously indicated that the issues of the rights and security of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh should be discussed between [the separatist] Stepanakert/Khankendi and Baku, while international guarantees are needed to launch such a dialogue. Baku, in turn, rejects the idea of international dialogue on the Karabakh issue, considering it an internal matter.
