On November 28, the Armenian government approved a €12.9 million funding agreement with the European Commission to strengthen nuclear safety, radiation protection, and radioactive waste management infrastructure in Armenia.

Under the agreement, Armenia's Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee will align the country’s nuclear and radiation safety regulatory framework with EU directives, as outlined in the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Armenia and the EU. CEPA underscores Armenia's commitment to closer cooperation with the EU and the adoption of European standards.

To ensure timely and complete implementation of CEPA activities, Armenia has developed a roadmap. The Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee has already begun drafting a new nuclear law incorporating relevant EU directives. The EU will provide up to €12.9 million to support these initiatives.

Given these considerations, the Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee deemed it appropriate to finalize the funding agreement with the European Commission.
