Armenian President Armen Sarkissian said that Armenians must "draw conclusions" from the defeat in the Nagorno-Karabakh war in 2020 and use "all potential" to strengthen and develop the state in the future.

"We lost in this war, but it is worth remembering that we fought the same enemy in the 90s. We defeated Azerbaijan and probably prepared better then. But unfortunately, our victory did not turn into a lasting peace," Armen Sargsyan highlighted.

Sargsyan said at a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community in Rome that Azerbaijan used all its resources in last year's war - oil, gas, the army, and even Turkey.

The Armenian President added that in that war, the issue was resolved not by the courage and self-sacrifice of the soldiers, but by weapons and equipment, and the Armenian side was behind in these matters.

"Of course, we need to talk about what's wrong. Officials need to sit down and discuss why we didn't win this war," president concluded.

The Second Karabakh War, which began on September 27 last year and lasted for 44 days, ended on November 10 with the signing of a trilateral statement by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia. As a result of this war, Russian peacekeepers have been deployed in the Karabakh.
