On January 23, Armenia's Human Rights Defender Kristine Grigoryan said she had submitted a formal resignation letter to the National Assembly, saying in a Facebook post that she wanted to resign because of taking up another job.

Grigoryan stated she would refrain from commenting on this subject and would give details regarding her new work in due course.

Notably, according to Armenian legislation, the ombudsman's mandate is terminated after the latter submits their resignation but not later than when another resignation is submitted within one week.

Notably, Grigoryan was chosen as the Human Rights Defender on January 24, 2022, after being recommended for the position by the government's Civil Contract party, led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. In the village of Sevan, Kristine Grigoryan was born in 1981. She served as a national human rights specialist for the Council of Europe from 2016 to 2017. She was chosen to serve as the deputy minister of justice in July 2019.
