Azerbaijan Begins Exporting Table Eggs to the U.S. Amid Egg Shortage

On March 7, the Association of Poultry and Egg Producers and Exporters reported that Azerbaijan has begun exporting table eggs to the United States due to an egg shortage and rising prices caused by the spread of avian flu.
According to the association, the U.S. government authorized egg imports from other countries in 2024 to address the supply shortage. One of Azerbaijan’s largest poultry farms, Giləzi Quşçuluq, received certification under American standards and was authorized to export eggs to the U.S.. Since March, the company has been conducting regular shipments.
The association emphasized that egg exports to the U.S. would not impact supply or prices in Azerbaijan. It stated that the country’s daily demand for table eggs is around 4 million, while production reaches approximately 6 million. Despite a portion being exported, domestic demand will be fully met, with 100 million eggs currently in storage.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, the head of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), accused former U.S. President Joe Biden of "killing" chickens, claiming that the administration "ordered" the slaughter of tens of millions of laying hens.
"The insane murder of 150 million laying hens took place on the orders of the Biden administration," Musk wrote on X.
CNN reported that the culling of chickens was a directive from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to curb the spread of highly contagious bird flu, which has affected 100 million birds since 2022, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. As a result, the U.S. is experiencing an egg shortage, with prices surging significantly in recent weeks.
