Azerbaijan Recalls Long-Serving Ambassador from Russia After 18 Years

On September 23, Polad Bulbuloglu was recalled from his position as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Russia after 18 years of service. President Ilham Aliyev signed the order for his recall.
"Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has recalled Polad Bulbuloglu from the post of Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation," the statement reads.
Polad Bulbuloglu was elected a deputy in the 7th convocation of Azerbaijan's Parliament elections held on September 1. He was also appointed chairman of the Culture Committee during the new parliament's first session.
Notably, Polad Bulbuloglu had announced the end of his diplomatic mission in Moscow ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Baku on August 18. The diplomat reflected on his future: "It would be more correct for me to represent my native Shusha in the Parliament. I would like to devote the rest of my life to communicating more with people and the nature of my homeland."
