On May 1, Mukhtar Mammadov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Israel, stated that the future of Azerbaijani-Israeli cooperation holds significant promise for expanding collaboration in various fields, exchanging expertise, and pursuing joint initiatives.

Mammadov identified tourism as one of the most dynamic areas of partnership, emphasizing its role in strengthening ties between the two nations. He highlighted the growing interest of Israeli citizens in Azerbaijan, noting that many spent the recent Passover holiday in Baku and other regions. The ambassador pointed out the intensive air traffic between the countries, with AZAL operating 14 weekly flights between Baku and Tel Aviv, complemented by services from Israeli airlines, which he said fosters deeper mutual understanding through increased people-to-people contact.

Addressing the broader context of Azerbaijani-Israeli relations, Mammadov emphasized their deep historical roots and attributed one key factor to the complete absence of antisemitism in Azerbaijani society. He noted that Azerbaijan, home to an active Jewish community of over 16,000, has cultivated a centuries-long tradition of peaceful coexistence and multiculturalism. The ambassador described Azerbaijan as a historical crossroads of diverse cultures, religions, and ethnicities, where xenophobia and ethnic hatred have no place.

Reflecting on the 2020 Second Karabakh War, Mammadov expressed gratitude for Israel’s support during Azerbaijan’s efforts to liberate its occupied territories. He recalled how Israeli flags were widely displayed across the country during the conflict and affirmed that the Azerbaijani people would not forget Israel’s solidarity during that critical period.

Notably, during the Second Karabakh War, Azerbaijan utilized Israeli-made drones, such as the Harop loitering munitions, and other advanced weaponry. These systems were instrumental in targeting Armenian positions and contributed to Azerbaijan’s tactical advantages on the battlefield.
