Azerbaijan's YAP Calls for Early Parliamentary Elections
On June 20, MPs from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) decided to appeal to the President regarding the extraordinary parliamentary elections. The decision was made at the latest meeting of the YAP Management Board.
YAP Deputy Chairman Tahir Budagov stated that the next elections to the Milli Majlis should be held in accordance with Part II of Article 981 of the Constitution of Azerbaijan in November 2024, coinciding with the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and other prestigious international events. "Organizing both the elections and the mentioned events at a high level is of great importance. Additionally, the expediency of the country's parliament being fully operational during that period should also be considered. We believe that under the current conditions, the Milli Majlis [Azerbaijani Parliament] should take the initiative to dissolve the Milli Majlis and hold elections earlier, prioritizing the state's interests," Budagov said.
A unanimous decision was made to advise the MPs representing the New Azerbaijan Party in the Milli Majlis to initiate an appeal to the President of Azerbaijan to dissolve the sixth convocation of the Milli Majlis and call for early elections.
