Chinese Ambassador Discusses Support for Azerbaijan’s Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity; Baku’s Support for Taiwan and Its Role in SCO
On April 28, Lu Mei, China’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, stated at a press conference that the People’s Republic of China supports Azerbaijan in demining its liberated territories.
During the event, Mei emphasized China’s ongoing humanitarian assistance for mine clearance and its readiness to contribute to Azerbaijan’s social development, highlighting support for the development and revival strategy initiated by President Ilham Aliyev. The ambassador also reaffirmed Beijing’s firm backing for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security.
Mei noted that President Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s support for China’s reunification efforts with Taiwan during his recent visit to China, which resulted in the signing of 20 cooperation documents across fields such as economy, trade, transport, aerospace, science and technology, culture, and local governance. She detailed agreements on forming a working group for investment cooperation, launching free trade agreement negotiations, expediting an intergovernmental international road transport agreement, and jointly organizing cultural and tourism events.
The ambassador underscored that Azerbaijan is a key dialogue partner within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), with China supporting the enhancement of Azerbaijan’s legal status in the organization. Mei added that China welcomes Azerbaijan’s initiatives to deepen SCO cooperation and is prepared to leverage the platform to strengthen bilateral and multilateral partnerships in trade, investment, digital economy, agriculture, and green development.
