CSTO Secretary General Urges Armenia to Define Its Alliance Status

On June 21, during a conversation with journalists on the margins of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (CMFA) meeting in Almaty, Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov stated that the CSTO expects Armenia to clarify its future status in the military-political bloc officially.
"I think that the political leadership in Armenia will still clarify the situation, and there will be an official decision on whether to be in the organization or not," Tasmagambetov stated.
According to Tasmagambetov, the CSTO retains all obligations to Armenia, and the republic remains an ally of the organization. "Armenia was and is our ally in the CSTO, and all our obligations to Armenia are preserved. But the issue of membership in the organization is the sovereign right and decision of the country," he emphasized.
