In an interview with Armenpress in Brussels, Nacho Sánchez Amor, the European Parliament’s Standing Rapporteur on Turkey, emphasized Turkey’s potential to play a constructive role in promoting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He also addressed broader EU–Turkey relations, domestic democratic challenges in Turkey, and Kurdish issues.

Sánchez Amor stressed that Turkey could help ease tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan by leveraging its close ties with Baku. “Turkey could play a positive role in the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” he said. “We believe Turkey should contribute positively to easing tensions and preventing violence.”

He welcomed existing agreements between Armenia and Turkey—such as opening the border for third-country nationals and facilitating humanitarian aid—but noted that full normalization remains essential for regional stability.
