“Freedom Square Movement” Transforms into Political Party

The Freedom Square political movement has officially transitioned into a political party, holding its founding congress on March 8.
Originally established in 2024 ahead of the October 26 elections, the movement was part of the Strong Georgia coalition. However, its leaders have now declared their intent to operate as an independent political force.
"We were proud to be part of an electoral coalition, but now we are moving forward independently," said Levan Tsutkiridze, the party’s leader and founder of the original movement.
The newly formed party has outlined its core priorities—justice, security, and freedom. According to party leader Simon Janashia, these principles will shape its policy agenda.
On justice, Janashia emphasized the need for laws that are impartial and serve the public good, rather than reinforcing the power of select individuals. He underscored the importance of independent institutions, including law enforcement, the judiciary, and the prosecutor’s office, in maintaining fairness and accountability.
Regarding security, the party aims to strengthen both national and individual security, with a particular focus on enhancing the country’s social security system.
As for freedom, Janashia articulated a broad vision, arguing that true freedom is not just the absence of restrictions but also the presence of conditions that allow individuals to thrive. He pointed to creative, cultural, economic, and spiritual foundations as essential for improving both personal and collective well-being.
The new party’s manifesto states:
“To protect Georgia’s national interests and fulfill its historical mission, we are creating Freedom Square—an open, democratic platform—and launching political activities. Freedom Square is a union of patriotic, professional, and honest citizens dedicated to safeguarding freedom and democracy.
Our goal is to prevent Georgia from becoming a Russian province, defeat the current government in the parliamentary elections, establish real democracy, and achieve membership in the European Union. We believe that justice is the foundation of peace, and democracy is the most just system of governance. We also believe that EU membership is the best mechanism for realizing our country’s historical aspirations, ensuring democratic, stable, and peaceful development.
We have a clear vision of how to approach the elections, how to protect our votes, and how to continue our path afterward—by preserving our national identity and uniqueness, developing the economy, healthcare, culture, and education, and effectively protecting Georgia’s unique nature and environment. We are ready to cooperate with all civic groups, political parties, and citizens who share our values, approaches, and goals.”
