Georgia Ready to Mediate Between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Says Foreign Minister
During his speech in the parliament on June 16, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said that Tbilisi is ready to assume the role of mediator between Yerevan and Baku again.
"As part of the Peaceful Neighborhood Initiative, Georgia has previously taken steps to start a constructive dialogue between the two neighboring countries. We express our readiness to continue our activities in this direction," Darchiashvili stressed.
He further expressed his belief: "Georgia's efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region will be effective, and we are ready to make an important contribution to this work."
Notably, in 2020, after the 44-day war, Georgia made two attempts to start a dialogue between Yerevan and Baku. In 2021, 15 Armenian military personnel detained in Azerbaijan were released through the mediation of Tbilisi in exchange for mined maps of the territories to be freed from occupation.
