Hungary vetoed the European Union’s agreed-upon program to provide support to Armenia through the European Peace Facility.

According to a diplomatic source from the RFE/RL Armenian Service, Hungary insists that Azerbaijan be included in the program, which is currently under discussion as a potential solution to break the deadlock on the matter.

In mid-April, the RFE/RL Armenian Service received information suggesting that a preliminary agreement had been reached in Brussels to allocate 10 million euros of aid to Armenia from the European Peace Facility. Diplomatic documents indicate that the funding is intended to establish a field modular camp for a battalion, including a medical aid clinic and other essential services and capabilities.

“The purpose of this support is to help the Armenian armed forces increase their resilience and stability-building capabilities, thereby better protecting the civilian population during crises and emergencies,” reads the aforementioned document, the adoption of which Hungary has blocked for several weeks now.
