Iranian border guards killed Azerbaijani citizen

Iranian border guards shot and killed an Azerbaijani citizen who tried to cross the border.
According to the Press Centre of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan (SBS), the Iranian border service received information that an Azerbaijani citizen Mirjavad Musayev was killed by Iranian border guards while trying to cross the state border from Iran to Azerbaijan.
"On May 18, Mirjavad Musayev's body was officially accepted with the participation of a representative of the prosecutor's office and handed over to his family members. A request was sent to the Iranian side to investigate the incident and inform about the results," the statement said.
It is not reported why Mirjavad Musayev tried to cross the border illegally.
The incident on the border between the two countries might be related to drug trafficking. According to the State Border Service, the smuggling of 106 kilograms and 495 grams of drugs and 4,000 pills containing psychotropic substances from Iran to Azerbaijan has been prevented in recent days. Almost every week, Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies report the seizure of hundreds of kilograms of drugs believed to have been imported from Iran.
