Maria Zakharova Comments on Escalation Around Karabakh
At a briefing for journalists, commenting on the latest escalation in the region, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the complete unblocking of the Lachin corridor would facilitate the de-escalation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Moscow is concerned about the increasing number of armed incidents and ceasefire violations in Nagorno-Karabakh," she added. "We call on the parties to exercise restraint and settle all contentious issues in a peaceful, political, and diplomatic way in cooperation with the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent. And we believe that the de-escalation of the situation would be facilitated by the early adoption of measures to completely unblock the Lachin corridor and create conditions for the normal life of the civilian population," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. Zakharova stated that Moscow is making every effort to implement a large-scale roadmap to open railway traffic from Russia to Armenia.
The journalist's question was: "In Yerevan, they say the problem is in Abkhazia. What, in your opinion, are the prospects for resolving this issue?"
"This roadmap includes signed documents at the level of heads of state and relevant commissions under the auspices of representatives of the governments of our countries. And every day, everything is done to implement the project," Zakharova answered.
