Mirzoyan Addresses Opposition Criticism Over Karabakh Armenians' Rights

On April 16, Ararat Mirzoyan, Foreign Minister of Armenia, addressed recent reactions to the Ministry’s statement and clarified the government’s stance on the rights and security of Armenians in Karabakh and the "Crossroads of the World" project.

During his speech in the National Assembly, Mirzoyan emphasized that the Armenian government has consistently worked to address the issues facing Nagorno-Karabakh’s Armenians, including proposing international guarantees to ensure their rights. Responding to accusations that the government removed the issue from its agenda, he stated, "The government, led by Prime Minister Pashinyan, did everything possible to address the rights and security of these people." He noted that following the forced deportation and the dissolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), the situation had changed, and the question of rights no longer applied, as no Armenians remained in the region. Mirzoyan expressed surprise at claims that the government had abandoned the issue, especially given its efforts to foster dialogue. He pointed out that opposition members criticizing the government’s position had declined to participate in discussions, including at a meeting in Sofia.

Mirzoyan also addressed the "Crossroads of the World" project, which aims to integrate Armenia into new logistical routes in the South Caucasus. He explained that the project builds on the Middle Corridor and reaffirmed Armenia’s proposal to Azerbaijan for unblocking infrastructure, independent of a peace agreement. "If we receive an official positive response, we can immediately begin unblocking the infrastructure," Mirzoyan stated.
