Russian Intelligence Claims US is Promoting Pro-Western Parties in Armenia Ahead of 2026 Elections

On November 27, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) alleged that Washington has begun politically supporting pro-Western parties in Armenia to ensure their entry into parliament during the 2026 elections.
In a statement released by the SVR press bureau, the agency claimed that these parties, described as “uncompromising adherents of democracy,” are being positioned to serve as a counterbalance to Armenia’s executive branch.
The SVR further alleged that the parties’ intended role would be to “restrain the government” from prioritizing “objective national interests, traditions, and values of the Armenian people,” drawing a parallel to what it described as a similar strategy employed in Georgia.
