At a meeting of the de-facto Parliament of the separatist South Ossetia/Tskhinvali Region on July 5, the issue of appealing to Belarus to recognize the independence of South Ossetia was raised by MPs.

Alan Tekhov, the Chairman of the Committee on Economy, Small Business and Agriculture, proposed that the South Ossetian Parliament formally apply to the legislative body of Belarus to recognize the independence of South Ossetia.

"We have the opportunity if earlier they were prevented by some political consequences, including sanctions, today they already exist. So that from our side, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic also turned to them on this issue," he said.

Alan Alborov, the de-facto Speaker of the Parliament, addressed the proposal to the chairman of the profile committee Zaza Driaev for further elaboration.
