On 30 January, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) began the transit of crude oil from Kazakhstan's Kashagan field through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline.

SOCAR reported that the first batch of Kashagan oil, loaded onto a tanker at the port of Aktau on 25 January, was about 6,000 tonnes. The oil reached the Sangachal terminal on 27 January and will be transported via BTC to the port of Ceyhan. The shipment is being carried by the Taraz tanker operated by the Kazakh company KazMorTransFlot.

This transit became possible after SOCAR Midstream Operations LLC, a subsidiary of SOCAR, signed an agreement with KMG Trading, a subsidiary of KazMunayGaz (KMG), on 15 January 2025 for the annual transit of 240,000 tonnes of Kashagan oil.
