On May 14, Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President's Special Envoy for the Middle East, stated that Azerbaijan may soon be among the countries to join the Abraham Accords, alongside Armenia, Syria, and Lebanon.
Witkoff predicted that four to six countries could join the Abraham Accords—agreements aimed at normalizing relations between Arab states and Israel—in the coming months. He specifically mentioned Azerbaijan, Armenia, Syria, and Lebanon among the potential candidates.
Witkoff emphasized that normalization efforts might also extend to Libya and noted growing potential for progress in Lebanon and Syria. "My prediction is that relatively soon we will see the potential for normalization in Lebanon and even Syria. It could happen with Libya. I am talking about countries joining the Abraham Accords; it could happen with Azerbaijan and Armenia," he stated.
He also highlighted that Azerbaijan and Armenia were nearing a resolution of their conflict, further increasing the likelihood of their participation in the Abraham Accords.
As previously reported by Caucasus Watch, on March 8, Israeli parliamentarians discussed strengthening a trilateral strategic alliance between Israel, the United States, and Azerbaijan, focusing on Azerbaijan’s inclusion in the Abraham Accords and modernizing its partnership with Israel. Members emphasized Azerbaijan’s key role in regional security and called for repealing U.S. sanctions under Section 907, while Israel expressed interest in expanding cooperation in security, trade, technology, and energy.
