Talks Underway: Armenia Looks to India for Su-30 Fighter Modernization
On September 15, Hovhannes Vardanyan, the head of the Aviation Department of the Armenian Armed Forces, stated that Armenia is in talks with India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited regarding the modernization of its Su-30 fighters.
Vardanyan emphasized that he had already discussed potential areas of cooperation with General Anil Chauhan, the Chief of Defence Staff of India.
An unnamed Indian official confirmed to the Hindustan Times that Armenia is interested in modernizing the Su-30 fighters through the Indian corporation, noting, "The talks on this issue are at an initial stage. The variant of Su-30 in Armenia's arsenal is different from the Su-30MKI in the Indian Air Force."
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited manufactures Su-30MKI multi-purpose fighter aircraft in India under a Russian license.
