The law ratifying the Shusha Declaration reached with Azerbaijan last year was approved by Turkish Parliament.

In the 581-seat Turkish Parliament, 266 MPs voted in support of the declaration, while 11 members voted against it.

According to the office, the measure proposes elevating Turkey-Azerbaijan relations to the status of an alliance.

It was then referred to the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament.

The declaration emphasizes that Armenia's accusations against Turkey and attempts to “distort” history are threatening regional peace and stability, and that the opening of the Zangezur corridor connecting Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as the Nakhchivan-Kars railway line, will help to strengthen relations.

The Shusha Declaration, which focuses on defence cooperation and the establishment of new transportation lines, was signed by Turkey and Azerbaijan. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met in city of Shusha.

The proclamation recognises the two militaries' combined efforts in the face of outside challenges, as well as their armed forces' restructure and modernisation.
