On May 30, Vernon Coaker, the UK Minister of State for Defence, stated that Azerbaijan is an important partner for Britain in the fields of security and diplomacy. Report informs that he made the remarks during an official reception in London dedicated to the 108th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s independence. Addressing the event as the main British government representative, Coaker highlighted the expanding potential of bilateral relations and noted that London is working to elevate ties with Baku to the level of a strategic partnership.

He stated: "I am proud that the British government I represent is raising relations with Azerbaijan to the level of strategic partnership. This will allow our countries to expand cooperation in defense and security, trade, investment, economic growth, as well as innovation and education. These priorities are being discussed during the growing number of high-level visits between the two countries." Coaker emphasized that in an increasingly uncertain global environment, cooperation with trusted partners has become more important than ever. He also referred to Azerbaijan’s historical and recent achievements and stated that the UK welcomes and appreciates the efforts of Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, toward achieving lasting peace in the region.

The minister also recalled his visit to Azerbaijan in December, saying the country had made a strong impression on him. He noted that Baku stood out for its combination of historical heritage and modern development, as well as the blend of Eastern and Western influences, alongside the hospitality of the Azerbaijani people. Coaker added that his meetings with Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, and other Azerbaijani officials during that visit contributed to strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in the area of defence cooperation.
