| News, Politics, Georgia

On April 2, Globalnews.ge received a written response from the US State Department regarding a question about the situation in Georgia.

According to the agency, its correspondent had asked State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce during a briefing whether the US had communicated with Georgia’s ruling party and, if so, what the nature of that communication was. The question also referenced the challenging situation in Georgia, highlighting the lack of recognition of election results by both the Georgian people and the international community, the arrests of peaceful demonstrators, and the imprisonment of an independent journalist. Given these circumstances, the correspondent inquired about the US vision for the ongoing crisis in Georgia.

In its written response, the State Department stated that it continues to assess its approach to Georgia to advance US interests. It emphasized that the US has outlined specific steps the Georgian government can take to demonstrate its commitment to improving bilateral relations.

Regarding the actions of the Georgian Dream government, the response referenced Vice President Vance’s statement in Munich, stressing that a democratic mandate cannot be achieved through censorship, imprisonment of opponents, or disregarding the views of the electorate. The statement also reaffirmed that the US has been a partner to Georgia and its people for 33 years, supporting the country’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
