Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan Deepen Bilateral and Regional Cooperation

On March 11, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu during an official visit to Astana.
Bayramov and Nurtleu discussed a wide range of bilateral and regional issues, including political, economic, trade, transport, and humanitarian cooperation. They also signed a joint Action Plan for 2025-2026. Bayramov thanked Kazakhstan for its prompt rescue efforts following the AZAL passenger plane crash near Aktau in December 2024. He also acknowledged Kazakhstan’s role in facilitating Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization talks, stating that revanchist sentiments in Armenia remain an obstacle to peace.
Bayramov highlighted that trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan exceeded $500 million in 2024 and announced the establishment of a Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan Fund with an initial charter capital of $300 million to support investment projects. He also underlined the potential for cooperation between industrial and technology parks and emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration within the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) and the planned fiber-optic cable project under the Caspian Sea.
During a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Bayramov conveyed President Ilham Aliyev’s appreciation for Kazakhstan’s assistance in the AZAL plane crash rescue efforts. Tokayev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s status as a reliable strategic partner and ally, highlighting key projects such as the laying of a fiber-optic communication line and a deep-sea electric cable across the Caspian Sea.
